Majority of Hollywood movies outsource the visual effects work to India in some or other way, says Dhanapal Padmanabhan Director of iGene DI & VFX studio based in Chennai. Animation industry and VFX (Visual Effects) industry is booming, declares Dhanapal, just like the IT boom. “The futuristic technology is suited for gaming, virtual reality and augmented reality, besides movies and web series. Though Hollywood heavily oursources work at studios in India there is a huge gap between demand and supply. Trained manpower and talent pool are to be made larger. There is a demand for VFX artists in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, China and Germany.
PG Diploma in Visual Effects (VFX) has been designed to fill this gap and is a skill based program aiming at providing the industry standard practises using the VFX technology for Films, Commercials, Games and AR & VR. The program is structured at par with the International practices in the industry.
This course emphasizes developing advanced compositing skills / creative 3D applications with a focus on various pipeline workflows and shot finishing. Students will practice advanced compositing techniques using plates from actual film projects. Students will also learn stereo compositing techniques and workflows. The specialisation includes 3D asset building and other 3D applications in feature films and gaming environments.

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to
- recognize and evaluate key visual effects technologies and how they are used to create advanced visual effects;
- construct complex visual effects shots incorporating live action, 2D and 3D generated imagery;
- compose a shot using multiple render passes created from 3D packages;
- re-light elements within a composited scene to blend seamlessly with live action plates;
- demonstrate and execute delivery guidelines for feature film and television production pipelines;
- assemble and compose stereoscopic footage for use in a 3D production.

Eligibility for Admission
Candidate for admission to the Post Graduate Diploma course shall be required to have completed the UG / PG Degree (any discipline) of this University or any other University recognized by UGC.
Duration of the Program
This Course shall consist of two Semesters in an Academic Year. For this purpose, an Academic Year shall be divided into two Semesters; the first Semester falls between July to November and the second semester falls between December to April.
