Department of Visual organised Media Entrepreneurship on 7 th December 2021. In the rising entrepreneurial environment in India, Media start up is a buzzing word. From digital media start ups to small media companies foster creativity and independent working culture among young minds. This expert conversation by Dr.Balu, Dy Dean, KCLAS aimed to build the skills that support entrepreneurship among our media students. He expressed that ‘One should first understand What Media Entrepreneurship entails before investing time… and effort to figure out How to start a Media Entrepreneurship’. Outcome of the Event: This expert conversation enhanced students’ knowledge on Media & Entrepreneurship techniques and the nuances of media industry. The field experience of the expert helped studentsto understand the ground realities and prepare themselves for changing media world.

Media exhibition of Department of Visual Communication is an event organised completely by the our media students for the students community of Kumaraguru Institutions. This is a four-day Media event to showcase Kumaraguru students artworks, photographs and creative talents held from 15th -18th December 2021, at Lecture Hall 02. This exhibition was meticulously planned and organized by the 2020 batch II year Visual Communication students with the help of juniors and seniors and under the guidance of Dr. Pranav Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Communication . Mr. Ananatha Rao, Dean, Data Science and Dr. Shanthi, Vice Principal inaugurated the event. Outcome of the Event: This exhibition enhanced students’ knowledge on the different skills of hospitality, punctuality, time management, etiquette, communication skills and presentation. The exhibition promoted creative skills among students and encouraged more people of kumaraguru Institutions to visit and appreciate the works of students and also varied viewers from outside the campus. A two-day workshop on Music Production was organized . The resource person, Mr. Ashwath, is a film music director and an experienced television media professional shared his expertise. He has scored music for advertisements, plays, web series and over 75 short films. He has also worked on the music of Tamil feature films such as Nalanum Nandhiniyum and Thittam Poattu Thirudura Kootam. His latest work is in the film FIR, which is expected to release in January 2022.This two-day workshop was organised and conducted by 2021 batch first-year students of Visual Communication, with assistance from the second and third year students, under the guidance of faculty coordinator, Mr. Clifford Chetan Ambler
On the first day of the workshop, Mr. Ashwath introduced to the student audience, the audio industry and its three major departments:1.Dubbing2.Sound effects3.Background score.He took the audience through the journey of adding sounds to visuals in advertisements. He showed his work for the brand FreshToHome, and played video clips that showed the animated advertisement in various stages of its audio mixing process, thereby providing insight into the steps that are followed for each component of audio added at different stages.
On the second day of the workshop, Mr. Ashwath began the session by providing insight into all the possible scenes a musical aspirant can enter outside of the film industry, which includes bands, radio and advertising.
Sanjay M, a first-year student of Visual Communication said that this workshop helped him gain better insight into the world of film music production. “I also got the opportunity to sing on stage, and was complimented by Mr. Ashwath, which made me really happy. I am glad that we as students could get to know what a composer of his calibre has to say about the music industry.”
Namagiri Lakshmi, a second-year student of Visual Communication (and a budding singer and lyricist) said, “Getting to know the entireprocess of music-making was informative and very, very inspiring. I was not aware of the extent of work that went into background scores until today, and I am glad I got to know so much”.
SurentharRaj, another second-year student, said, “The functioning and processes of the music industry were completely new to me, but Mr. Ashwath was very humble and patiently introduced the many facets of his career to us. I also got to watch many of my friends perform, and now I am sure they all have a bright future ahead.”

As part of outreach program of Department of Visual Communication, Training Program for KIA Students(Extension Education ) and faculty on usage of media tools was conducted on 18th December 2022, 9.00 am to 3.00 pm at Kumaraguru Campus, Saravanampatti,Coimbatore.
Initially, Orientation on campus life of KCLAS was given to students of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture in Sir. C.V.Raman hall, Kumaraguru campus.
Faculty of Visual Communication gave hands on training on photography, video production and graphic designing. 120 students and 6 faculty of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture participated in the training programmed and acquired the skills. Students were divide into three groups of 40 students in each group and were trained. The training session were conducted at viscom media studio and lab. Photography Session was conducted by Mr. Clifford Chetan Ambler, Assistant Professor, Video production session by Mr. Leo Gertrude, lead and Graphic Design by Dr. Pranava Kumar, Assistant Professor.
This out reach program benefited 120 students and 6 faculty of Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture by learning media tools and application of the same for their domain specific field and to bring out the media skills they had.

Pongal Tiruvizha 2022 is celebration event organised by the students of Visual Communication department to spread the significance of the state festival Pongal. Pongal celebration date back to Sangam age and is a four-days long event.The celebrations begin on the first day with Bhogi Pongal discarting old and useless domestic articles, The second day known as Surya Pongal or Thai Pongal, is dedicated to the Sun God. On this day, the freshly harvested rice is cooked with milk and jaggery and that’s the sakkarai Pongal. The third day is Mattu Pongal cattle horns are painted and decorated. It’s a worship of cattle.The fourth and final day of Pongal is called Kaanum Pongal where new initiatives are taken and relatives are invited as part of strengthening the relationship bond Various programs including cooking – What’s Cookin, poetry and story- Kavithai Kathai, Movie Guess- Find me if you can and so on were conducted as part of Viscom Pongal Tiruvizha 2022 and this create a fest culture among the media students. Students enthusiastically took part in all the events and enjoyed the Pongal Celebration.
The Department of Visual communication organized a workshop on “LINO CUT” on 18-01-2022(Tuesday) between 3:30PM PM to 4:30 PM through the Microsoft teams platforms. Prasanth of I B.Sc. Visual Communication (21BVC) gave introduction of resourse person Ms .Rama Rajesh. Founder & CEO Hey Taya , Palettez School of Fine Arts. Prof. Leo Gertrude addressed the students and briefed about the objective of the workshop.
Linocut is an artistic printmaking process, where the artist first carves an image into a block of linoleum, then ink is rolled onto the uncut surface of the block and, finally, paper is laid on top of the block and pressure is applied to produce a print. The objective of the workshop was to introduce the rich history of linocut designs and shed light on process and methods of lino cut artwork.
Ms.Rama Rajesh delivered a lecture on the topic “LINO CUT”. The lecture helped the students to gain insight about the history of Linocut art and the process involved. She trained the students on basic drawing and painting relevant to linocut artwork. School Student from Cunoor , 0oty and Coimbatore also participated and gained knowledge of this artform.
