Department of Political Science conducted a workshop on “Game theory in social science”. Mr. Arun Koshy, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Madras Christian College, Chennai, was the resource person. The welcome address was given by Miss. Sowbakiya, I BA Political Science.
He started the session with the idea of Game theory. Game theory means the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant’s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants. Game theory has been applied to contexts in war, business, and biology.
After introduction he came with some more concepts in game theory. He explained about the cooperation and the defect. He also demonstrated that with a fantastic game. For that he called upon two students and demonstrated the game. Mainly concept of zero sum game theory was described in a simple and fun filled manner. Then he explained about the rationality in game. Rationality implies that every player is motivated by maximizing his own payoff. In a stricter sense, it implies that every player always maximizes his utility, thus being able to perfectly calculate the probabilistic result of every action. Then he concluded the session with some practical examples from Political science and International Relations. The discussion was followed by the question-answer session. Finally the special guest was gifted by our department HOD, Mr.Shanmugam.
