Workshop – Galileo’s Telescope to Hubble Telescope-Unveiling the cosmos
Department of Mathematics organised a workshop titled, “Galileo’s Telescope to Hubble Telescope-Unveiling the cosmos” on 13th February, 2020 from 09.00 am to 01.30 pm at Seminar hall, KCLAS. The session holder was Mr. Sakthivel K, President of Coimbatore Astronomy club and Retired Professor of Physics, Adithya Institute of Technology, Coimbatore. 16 from Department of Mathematics, 4 from Department of Aeronautical Engineering, 3 from Department of B Com PA, 5 from Department of B Com, 2 from Department of BBA, and 2 from Department of Mechanical Engineering were the participants of the event who made the session so interactive with their active participation. The session started at 09.00 am with Ms Nithya Kumari E welcoming the gathering.
The session started with the introduction of famous Astronomy students and about their discoveries and projects. The workshop teaches about how astronomical observations show us our place in the universe. History of Astronomy and galaxies were discussed. A new software named “Stellarium” was introduced which is used to learn how sky looks and objects that are far away on the earth. Introduction about on how to use the software was given. Using this software positions of stars were seen in different time and place.
The workshop was also about the brief history of how we know, what we know about our place in the universe, using the different types of telescope. Various Astronomical facts and discoveries were discussed. The link between Big Bang theory and astronomy was also discussed. Students were made to use three different types of Telescopes and made to magnify the objects. They were also made to see the spectrum of light. The workshop thus gave an insight into the Galileo’s telescope to Hubble telescope – Unveiling the cosmos, which is highly useful in Mathematics, physics and etc. The session concluded with Ms. Aishwarya S spelling the words of gratitude for everyone behind the event and Ms. RasikaPriya was the student coordinator.
