Volunteering with UYIR Club
The students from Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) had an opportunity to volunteer with UYIR Club at the Saravanampatti Junction on February 06, 2020. The UYIR club of Coimbatore focuses on creating a city free from road accidents. Eighteen students across various departments from KCLAS, created awareness to the public on the traffic rules. Dr. Emmanuel Daniel, Faculty of Social Work, KCLAS was the Coordinator for this event. The volunteering began after some guidance from the Cops at the Saravanmpatti junction. The students created awareness from 3.30 to 5.30 pm to make Coimbatore city a zero accident free place. The students were holding different plug cards and posters in order to make the public aware on wearing helmet and seat belts while driving. The volunteering through the UYIR club enabled the students to understand the importance of road safety. The students thanked the Coimbatore City Police, UYIR Club of Coimbatore City and KCLAS for the opportunity to participate.
National Service Scheme (NSS) – Training on Self Defence
The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science, Coimbatore organized a Training on Self Defence for the students of Kumaraguru Institutions on from 10th to 14th Feb, 2020 at the lawns opposite to MVB Block.
Self-defence is a countermeasure that involves defending oneself from harm. Many individuals are targeted by many criminals because they seem fragile and cannot defend themselves. Many individuals panic in the state of attack causing them to be easily overtaken. An individual’s best form of defence is his/her mind. In the training on self-defence, students were taught to remain calm and use their head in serious situations. Sensai Dr Emmanuel Daniel, Faculty of Social Work, KCLAS, along with his team of NSS volunteers taught various defence techniques. A total of Twenty students from various departments got trained through this program.
National Service Scheme (NSS) – Training on Fire and Safety
National Service Scheme (NSS) of KCLAS in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services organized a Training on “Fire and Safety” for the KCLASites on February 17, 2020, at 03.30, next to East Kore.
Fire safety is the set of practices intended to reduce the destruction caused by fire. Fire safety measures include those that are intended to prevent ignition of an uncontrolled fire, and those that are used to limit the development and effects of a fire after it starts.
The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department is a service department of the Government of Tamil Nadu whose function is to fight fires and provide relief measures in times of calamities and disasters in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Kalidass, SFO and his team of Fire Brigades from Ganapathimaanagar Fire Station, demonstrated various fire safety and rescue techniques to our students. Around 45 students across departments participated in this event. Dr. Emmanuel Daniel, Faculty of Social Work was the Coordinator for this program.
Qubate Club Competition
Ship-Wreck on February 05, 2020
Qubate Club conducted Ship-Wreck competition on February 05, 2020 at 5.00 p.m. in KCLAS Square. Around 10 students participated in the event and the event was judged by Saran and Dhuruvan.
‘Sports Wiz’
Qubate Club conducted ‘Sports Wiz’ on February 13, 2020 at 5 p.m. in LH2, KCLAS campus. Saran of I B.A Political Science organized the event. There were 11 teams comprising of 22 participants. 6 teams from KCT and 5 teams from KCLAS participated enthusiastically. Nithya Prakash of 4th year Automobile Engineering and Tarun Sirpi of 3rd year ECE won the first prize. Tamil Selvan of 2nd year Information Science and Technology and Gokul of 1st year ECE won the second prize.
