Guest Talk The Mathematics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI for Mathematics
As a part of the innovative educational activities of KCLAS, Department of mathematics organised a Skype guest lecture titled, “The mathematics of Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence for Mathematics” at Lecture theatre 1, KCT campus from 8.30 am to 10.00 am on 3rd February 2020. The session holder was Dr. Wesley H. Brewer, Computational Engineer/ Data Science Consultant (self-employed), Mississippi, USA. The session started at 8.30 am with Ms. Brrinda welcoming the gathering and introducing the guest speaker to the gathering. 15 students of Department of Mathematics (1st year) were the participants of the session who got the best out of the event.
The session started off with the introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI), the area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans, and also about the recent trends in AI. He also discussed the reasons behind the present sensitivity and fame of AI, inquisitiveness of AI and advancements in AI that surpassed even the creators – humans. His talk also gave deep insights into Math behind AI such as the universal theory of approximation, adaptive moment estimation and stochastic gradient descent and showed how AI is used for solving math problems. He also taught the students about the branches of study that merge AI and traditional mathematics like the Physics Informed Machine Learning (PIML), Deep Learning for symbolic mathematics and Neural ODEs. The session was highly vibrant, interactive and thought provoking.
The session ended at 10.00 am with Ms. Sasthikaa of 1st year B.Sc. Mathematics spelling out the words of gratitude for all individuals behind the memorable event and Ms. Dharunika being the student coordinator for the event.
