The Department of Social Work, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science organized a Guest Talk on “Society’s Perspective On Disabilities” by Mr. Subramania Siva to the I year MSW students on 26.08.2019. Dr. Kalpana Prakash, Assistant Professor of Social work was the faculty coordinator for the programme.
The event started with a welcome address and short introduction about the resource person by Ms. E. Megha Varshini, Ist Year MSW Mr. Subramania Siva started with Introduction to people with disabilities, types of disability, Historical Perspectives of persons with disabilities from Hindu Mythology to Right Based Actions and Equal Opportunities to all. He gave insights on the Societal attitude and changes, clarity to what can be done for people with disabilities and what are all the existing benefits for persons with disabilities. The resource person also shared some current data, status and facts on Persons with disabilities in India. He also shared with the students on how social workers can impact the people with disabilities in need of help and how government and organizations can collaboratively contribute as well. The session ended with a vote of thanks by the student coordinator, Ms. Berlin Dorcas, 1st Year MSW (Batch 2019-21) and a memento was presented to the guest by Dr. Kalpana Prakash.
