The Department of Political Science organized a guest talk on ‘Reflections on the Federal Nature of Indian Democracy’ for first year students of B.A. Political Science students on 22.08.2019 at KCLAS Seminar Hall in KCLAS Campus. The resource person was Dr. R. Pavananthi Vembulu, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. Mr. Rithik Sanjay of I B.A. delivered the Welcome Address and introduced the resource person to the students.
The lecture gave an insight on three areas such as – importance of study of social sciences, meaning of the constitution and origin of the state and democratic rights. The resource person stressed the importance of study of social sciences, political science in particular. He stressed that the study would impart knowledge about the basic structure and how the public policies are made for the people. In future, the students can actively play a role in Public policy making.
Dr. Pavananthi has given a clear picture about the necessity of the constitution for the country. The topics like the basic features and democratic rights of the citizens are covered in the constitution. The resource person stressed the importance of reading quality journals like Economic and Political Weekly to understand the contemporary social and economic issues and also its impact on public policy. The session came to a close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Kalpana Devi of I B.A Political Science.
