Department of Mathematics organised a guest talk titled, “Application of Vector Calculus” on 2nd March, 2020 from 10.45 am to 12.30pm at Lecture Hall 6, KCLAS. The session holder was Dr. K. Maheshwari, Head of (I/C) Mathematics, Kumaraguru college of technology. Students of department of mathematics were the participants of the event who made the session so interactive with their active participation. The session started at 10.45 am with Ms.Rithika.C welcoming the gathering.
The session started with introduction of calculus, vector calculus and the real world application of vector calculus and its importance in various fields. The session explained clearly the concept about Green’s Theorem and it’s applications. Green’s Theorem gives a relationship between the line integral of a two-dimensional vector field over a closed path in the plane and the surface integral (double integral) over the region it encloses. Also, the divergence theorem, also known as Gauss’s theorem, is a result that relates the flux of a vector field through a closed surface (surface integral or double integral) to the divergence of the field in the volume enclosed (volume integral or triple integral). Different kinds of problems related to the applications of these two theorems were taught and tried by the students.
The workshop thus gave a deep insight into the applications of vector calculus, which is highly useful in solving real world problems, in differential geometry, study of partial differential equations, physics and engineering, especially in the description of electromagnetic fields, gravitational fields and fluid flow. The session was concluded with Ms. Dharunika.C spelling the words of gratitude for everyone behind the event and Mr.Kartheepan.C as the student coordinator.
