Dr. K. Narmatha, M.A, PGDHR, Ph.D

Assistant Professor

Introduction

Dr. Narmatha K has completed her Ph.D. from Bharathiar University and her thesis is entitled as “Insights into the Performance of Elected Women Representatives in Local Bodies of Coimbatore District”. She was the recipient of Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) Doctoral Fellowship for her Ph.D. project. Her research interest is in political empowerment, gender equality and Tamil Nadu politics. Having completed her Integrated M.A in Political Science from Pondicherry University and secured First class with Distinction, she has received EVR Periyar Ramaswamy Gold Medal for emerging as the department topper. She also served as the President of Students Union of Pondicherry University from 2017-18.

She has cleared UGC NET in Political Science four times and also completed her PG Diploma in Human Rights from Pondicherry University. She is Empaneled by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi to conduct Awareness Programmes on “Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention) Act, 2013” since 2025. She is also empaneled as Online Academic Counsellor for Political Science course for the students of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Regional Centre, Chennai from August, 2025.

In addition, she has also served as the Ward Councilor of Pollachi Municipality and helped in shaping public policy by working in close association with the common public. The Nehru Group of Institutions have awarded her the “Daughter of the Soil” award for championing social issues. Also, she has served as the Gender Auditor for various colleges and associated with the Anna Administrative Staff College and Police In-Service Training Centre to conduct awareness sessions to government officials and police officers.
