DESCRIPTION:KCLAS Inducts 7th Batch of Students During SWAGATHAM 2024 \n\nKumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) welcomed a total of 477 students across 11 undergraduate programs during KCLAS SWAGATHAM 2024 on Sunday. \n\nThis marks the entry of the 7th batch of students to the Kumaraguru campus since its inception in 2018. The freshers’ day\, celebrated as SWAGATHAM\, is an event organized to welcome the first-year students along with their parents. \n\nThe event featured Dr. Vijila Edwin Kennedy\, Principal of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS)\, who welcomed the freshers. Shri Shankar Vanavarayar\, Joint Correspondent of Kumaraguru Institutions\, delivered the presidential address. \n\nKCLAS is rooted in the philosophy of Liberal Arts education\, offering broad-based education for holistic development with an in-depth understanding of the chosen discipline. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and abilities to become successful\, productive members of society. \n\nWhile rooted in foundational tenets\, KCLAS looks forward to the fast-changing economy and society. Our vision is to become a progressive\, research-focused institution that instills a passion for lifelong learning and moulds young people to impact the world. \nDr Vijila Edwin Kennedy\, Principal\, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science\nAcknowledging the trust parents have placed in the college\, she talked about the college’s rich heritage as part of the Kumaraguru Institutions founded in 1984. She highlights the various institutions under the group and emphasizes the benefits of being part of a larger educational ecosystem. \n\nShe mentioned the growth of the college since its founding in 2018 and expresses pride in the achievements of its alumni. Delving into the profile of the incoming students\, she congratulates them for their academic achievements and mentioned the presence of student leaders\, achievers in extracurricular activities and sports\, and scholarship recipients. \n\nShe also talks about the personality profiling done on the students and emphasizes the importance of utilizing each other’s strengths for a successful learning experience. \n\nWelcoming the parents\, she requested them to partner with KCLAS and allow their businesses to serve as learning laboratories for the students. She also shared interesting statistics on why parents chose this college for their children. \n\nShe concluded by assuring the students of a strong focus on both formal and informal learning. She mentioned the importance of experiential learning through volunteer work\, leadership roles\, and real-world projects. She emphasizes the college’s core values of character-building and highlighted its commitment to the holistic development of the students. Finally\, she expressed her appreciation for the faculty\, administrative staff\, and everyone who contributed to the event. \nShri Shankar Vanavarayar\, Joint Correspondent\, Kumaraguru Institutions\nHe welcomed the freshers\, faculty\, and parents to Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) and highlighted KCLAS’s place within the larger Kumaraguru Institutions and its 40-year legacy of excellence in education. He emphasized that KCLAS is committed to providing students with a well-rounded education that includes both academics and extracurricular activities. \n\nHe said education is about transformation\, not just degrees and jobs. A liberal arts education is about cultivating the freedom to think\, write\, and question. He emphasized that this freedom comes with responsibility\, and students must take ownership of their learning. \n\nHe spoke about the importance of KCLAS’s legacy\, which is built on Kumaraguru founder Dr N Mahalingam’s vision of social transformation through education. He emphasized that the college’s purpose is to empower students to become agents of positive change. \n\nHe also highlighted the importance of co-curricular and extracurricular activities in a student’s development. He stressed that beyond academics\, students should explore their passions\, hobbies\, and interests. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for optimal physical and mental well-being. \n\nHe concluded by emphasizing the importance of character and values. He stated that KCLAS is an environment where students can develop strong ethical principles and a sense of respect for others. \n\nThe Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Sheela Srivastava\, Associate Director – Office of Student Affairs (OSA) concluding the event.
